The Winds of Change

photo from our recent trip to Martha's Vineyard.
If you are anything like me, comfy, cozy, soft, secure, and snug are synonymous with happiness. After all, I have never once felt the opposite while wrapped in a warm blanket, lost in a fascinating read, sipping on a cup of hot cocoa as the sky drizzles and drips outside my window. Comfortable just feels good.

So when the winds of change rouse and I am forced from the comfort of my cozy life, my immediate reaction is to resist. Luckily for me, my optimistic counterpart, time-after-time, calmly encourages me to embrace change with his wise reminder: “I have never experienced a change that was not good for me.”

In this season of my life I can feel the winds of change upon me. There is, of course, much wanted and welcomed change that I readily embrace; yet, conversely, there is a host of change (like dear friends moving away) which has me digging my heels into the ground and pulling that warm, comfortable blanket up over my head in protest.

However, years of change have taught me that Parker is right—there is always unseen bloom that accompanies change, whether it is in the form of a new friendship, opportunity, or adventure. Though hindsight is often 20/20, change (in my opinion) is usually the hand of God guiding us from comfortable complacency toward personal growth and progression. It really just comes down to our personal perspective and how we choose to view and deal with the change that comes our way. After all, I sincerely believe that happiness, in any phase of life, is merely a matter of the way we allow the corners of our mouth to turn . . . especially when the winds of change blow our way.
