Love + Shots: A Winning Formula

I love to observe meaning and symbolism in the details of life. Often these observations are a personal reminder that life has a deep and divine purpose. Often these observations are merely a bit of bloom that brings a welcomed smile to my heart. My heart smiled two weeks ago when I realized that the very first shot of our IVF process was to be administered on Valentine’s Day. It seemed a winning formula in my mind.

Valentine’s Day + love + shots = baby!

(As a personal side note [and for anyone who has been through this process and can relate], I must mention that despite my excitement, there was a completely unexpected and momentary mental trauma I felt as I self-administered my first shot. A mixture of fear and trepidation flooded my mind as I considered the pain of the injection, the quantities of medication being pumped into my body, and the still unknown long-term effects of the injectable hormones.)

Before allowing my initial excitement to be overcome by my fears, I quickly turned my thoughts to the significance I had observed about this special day and texted the following photo and caption to a few close friends: “Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope each of you have just as much fun making babies today as I’m having!”

  1. I. Love. You. We can always get some good baby making practice in :)

  2. Stephanie you are so brave... we will be praying for you!

  3. Stephanie, I think this is a beautiful blog. You write so beautifully and with such heart. I am so sorry about your struggle with fertility and wish you and Parker all the luck in your journey of starting a family of Smith's.

  4. Good luck! I've been down that road and it's all worth it in the end. :)

(BTW- It took me about 15 agonizing minutes to give myself my first shot. My husband kept laughing at me as I tried to talk myself into it. HA!)

  5. I love that you were calm enough to take a picture while giving yourself the shot! I told you what a mess I was it took 30 minutes that first time! It's all worth it though and what good luck to start on Valentine's Day.

  6. It's just so perfectly fitting and sweet that you started your shots on Valentine's Day, Steph. Makes me smile and teary, too. :) Sending lots of love and prayers for you guys. :)
